Do we actually need vegetables?
Well, I guess we could probably survive if we didn’t eat them. But we would also survive without having dogs in our existence, but I’d most certainly rather that not be a possibility.
What are vegetables?
All edible matter from a plant.
There’s a definition that you didn’t think you needed.
Anyway, most importantly, vegetables (as well as fruit) are our main source of micronutrients in our diet. What are micronutrients? Vitamins and minerals, the things that if you don’t get, you’ll probably get scurvy or go blind.
Thing is, is that being deficient in any micronutrient is never that easy to spot as we all just get used to living at a baseline and norm of ‘shitness’, whereby you don’t really have an optimal to compare too.
Ok, if the possibility of developing scurvy didn’t entice you, let’s talk about fibre.
I think like 90% of the UK don’t consume enough fibre. For some context, that’s 59,796,000 people that probably have issues with their poo. That itself raises the question as to why pooing is not commonly spoken about at the checkout of Tesco. ANYWAY, I DIGRESS.
